It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if not provided the possibility.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her newest gem.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the assurance to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this victory succeeding win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
